Manages all aspects of daily operations at Camp Petosega and the Crooked River Lock for the Emmet County Parks and Recreation Department. Enhances the safe experiences for park visitors.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manages the Park and the Locks, addressing day-to-day requirements and situations as they occur.
- Manages off-season and oversees during season; customer service, reservations, inventory procurement, daily financials, ordering of materials and supplies, and any other necessary paperwork.
- Ensures the completion of in-park maintenance, including grounds, buildings, trail maintenance, snow removal, and facility cleanliness, including janitorial & custodial, campsites, and building mechanicals.
- Oversees the operation, maintenance, and preventive maintenance of park equipment.
- Manages the hiring process for seasonal staff members, including team member paperwork, training, scheduling, daily work assignments, and tasks.
Provides requisite oversight to minor staff. - Manages Camp Petosega and the Crooked River Lock budget in collaboration with the Director of Parks and Recreation.
- Collaborates with the Park Programming Manager about upcoming park events.
- Assists visitors with questions and requests, and maintains order and general use within the park.

- Must maintain a flexible schedule – late nights, weekends, and weekdays will all be required based on the requirements of the camping and boating season.
- Weekends will be worked during season – Friday/Saturday/Sunday between Memorial Day and Labor Day, with other days designated as days off.
Living on-site in provided housing at Camp Petosega is preferred. There is a rental fee associated with housing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge of park rules and regulations. Must have strong organizational and follow-through abilities. Prior experience in supervising others. Effective communication skills with co-workers and the general public, including the ability to prepare reports; effective public relations and public speaking skills. Good people-oriented communicator, demonstrated problem-solving ability, and possesses creative thinking. Has the ability to collaborate with others works as a team. Ability to prioritize and multitask efficiently. Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software, are sufficient to create/prepare reports and presentations, manage databases, and track projects. Ability to use heavy equipment, including lawn mowers, tractors, snowmobiles, chainsaws, wood chipper, and hand tools is preferred. Plumbing, electrical, building, and mechanical skills are highly recommended.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Park Planning, Park and Recreation Administration, Leisure Services, Facility Management, business, or Public Administration, or related field is preferred; with 2-4 years’ experience in a related park environment, prior supervisory experience, general maintenance, and functional oversight required.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED
- Valid driver’s license
- CPR & First Aid certification within six (6) months of date of employment
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) within a year after employment.
