- Museum Field Services Manager
Description
The Museum Field Services Manager oversees Museum Field Services for the state of Utah, directing the Division of Arts and Museums’ museum outreach and engagement efforts from design to delivery. The incumbent provides strategic oversight for the Museum Field Services program, developing and implementing programmatic plans and budgets including those governing partnerships and federally-funded programs. The Museum Field Services Manager serves as the main liaison to the museum community, leveraging community relationships and partnerships to achieve greater cooperation and alignment among service providers and to improve baseline metrics in Utah’s museums. The Museum Field Services Manager identifies and leads collaboration and coordination efforts with rollout partners at other Divisions within the Department of Cultural & Community Engagement and outside community agencies on short and long-term projects. The incumbent will represent the Division of Arts and Museums at a local, regional, and national level through conferences and external board work.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage yearly program plans and long-range goals for museum field services.
- Negotiates, produces, and oversees contracts including federal grant reports, MOUs, partnership
service agreements, and workshop instruction or consultant contracts for museum field services
activities. - Develops and manages budgets for the museum field services program.
- Provide outreach, training, and consultation to Utah’s museums in collections, preservation and
care, museum administration, education, and exhibitions.
Serves as the subject matter expert for relevant Arts & Museums grant opportunities. - Identifies and manages new and existing partnerships and collaborations with other museum
support agencies, including the Utah Historical Society, Utah Humanities, Utah Museums
Association, Utah Nonprofits Association, Western Museums Association, AASLH, and other state,
regional, and national agencies, etc. - Maintains constituent databases, including the online Utah Museums Directory; designs and
disseminates surveys to the field, shares research findings and reports. - Communicates program-related content through the Division’s website, newsletters, and social
media. - Statewide travel to provide museum field services.
- Special projects and assignments as needed.

- A familiarity with national museum standards (AAM, AASLH).
- Experience in museum management.
- Excellent verbal, written, customer service, and communication skills.
- Knowledge, experience, and skill to develop and coordinate workshops and training for museum staff, board, and volunteers.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of collections stewardship, rural museum capacity building, and heritage preservation best practices.
- The ability to work in a flexible team environment.
- The ability to plan, organize, and prioritize time and workload in order to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BS/BA Degree or higher
- A working knowledge of, and good relationships with, Utah's museum community.
- The ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
