Description
OverviewThe Bridges Golf & Country Club, located in Montrose, Colorado, is seeking a polished, motivated, and service-driven Lead Assistant Golf Professional to help lead the day-to-day golf operation at one of Colorado's premier Western Slope golf facilities.
The Bridges is a semi-private club featuring a Nicklaus Design golf course, an engaged and growing membership, a strong tournament and league calendar, active public access, and a golf culture built around service, relationships, improvement, and community. The club is located between Grand Junction, Telluride, Crested Butte, Aspen, and the surrounding high country, offering a unique Colorado lifestyle and a golf operation with meaningful growth potential.
This is not an entry-level assistant role. The successful candidate will be expected to operate as a true lead assistant: visible, accountable, organized, and capable of helping set the daily tone for the golf staff, member experience, guest experience, and public-access golf operation. The position reports directly to the PGA Head Golf Professional and will play an important role in tournament operations, member programming, outside-service coordination, merchandising, instruction, club fitting, and overall golf shop leadership.
The ideal candidate understands the expectations of a private-club environment, while also recognizing the importance of creating a welcoming and professional experience for daily-fee guests and public-access players. This person should be comfortable working in a high-touch service setting, communicating clearly, leading by example, and helping the golf operation continue to mature.
Position Summary The Lead Assistant Golf Professional will support and help manage all key areas of the golf operation, including daily play, member services, tournament execution, retail operations, instruction, club fitting, staff leadership, and communication across departments.
This role requires someone who can move beyond task completion and begin thinking like a future Head Golf Professional. The right candidate will bring energy, professionalism, attention to detail, and a genuine desire to build a long-term career as a PGA Member.
Experience Required
Required High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of one year of golf industry experience.
PGA Associate, PGA Member, or serious intent to enter the PGA Professional Golf Management Program.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work weekends, holidays, tournaments, leagues, and peak seasonal periods.
Professional appearance and conduct.
Strong attention to detail and willingness to take ownership of assigned areas.
Ability to work effectively with members, guests, public-access golfers, staff, and other club departments.
Preferred Private club, resort, or high-quality daily-fee experience.
Tournament operations experience.
Retail, merchandising, or inventory experience.
Teaching, coaching, or player development experience.
Club fitting or club repair experience.
Experience supervising or mentoring outside-service or golf shop staff.
Ability to work effectively with members, guests, public-access golfers, staff, and other club departments.
Essential Responsibilities
Golf Operations Leadership Assist the PGA Head Golf Professional with all daily golf operations, including opening and closing procedures, tee sheet management, player check-in, member communication, and daily preparation of the golf operation.
Serve as a visible floor leader in the golf shop and around the club, helping ensure the golf staff is organized, informed, and delivering a consistent service experience.
Help coordinate the flow of daily play for members, guests, and public-access players while maintaining the service standards expected at a quality private club.
Communicate course conditions, cart rules, pace expectations, tournament schedules, and club policies clearly and professionally.
Use an "inform, then enforce" approach to course rules, pace of play, dress standards, safety policies, and overall player conduct.
Member, Guest, and Public-Access Experience
Deliver a warm, polished, and professional experience for members, guests, and public-access players.
Understand the difference between private-club service and transactional golf-shop service, and help reinforce a culture of hospitality, recognition, and follow-through.
Support a welcoming environment that reflects the personality of Montrose and the surrounding Western Slope: professional, friendly, approachable, and authentic.
Build relationships with members and regular players through consistent visibility, communication, and service.
Help ensure that public-access golfers experience the club in a way that protects the member environment while also creating a strong impression of The Bridges brand.
Tournament and Event Operations Assist with planning, preparation, execution, and follow-up for member tournaments, weekly leagues, outside golf events, corporate outings, and community golf events.
Help prepare tournament materials, pairings, scorecards, cart signs, rules sheets, scoring summaries, prize presentations, and event communications.
Work closely with the PGA Head Golf Professional to improve tournament execution, pace, communication, and the overall player experience.
Serve as a key operational presence on event days, helping coordinate staff, starting procedures, scoring, pace of play, and guest service.
Merchandising and Retail Support the golf shop merchandising program through inventory management, receiving, pricing, display creation, special orders, and retail promotions.
Help maintain a clean, organized, and attractive golf shop that reflects the quality of the club.
Assist with member and guest product recommendations, special orders, club-branded merchandise, and hard-goods sales.
Support retail strategies that align with the club's service standards and business goals.
Instruction, Player Development, and Club Fitting Provide individual instruction, clinics, camps, and player development programming as experience and PGA education allow.
Support the growth of instructional programming for members, juniors, women, beginners, public-access players, and other key golfer segments.
Develop or continue developing club-fitting knowledge, including the ability to connect instruction, equipment, and player improvement.
Demonstrate a desire to grow as a coach, fitter, communicator, and trusted resource for golfers at all levels.
Staff Leadership and Team Support Help lead, train, and support golf shop and outside-service staff.
Set the example for punctuality, appearance, communication, professionalism, and work ethic.
Assist with staff communication, daily assignments, operational checklists, and service expectations.
Work cooperatively with all club departments, including food and beverage, agronomy, administration, and events, to create a connected and professional club experience.
Professional Development Begin or continue progress toward PGA Membership within the timelines established by the PGA of America.
