Position Summary
Serves as the senior administrative and strategic leader for the Facilities Maintenance Division, providing executive oversight of operations, capital planning, and resource management. This position establishes division priorities, directs long-range facility planning, and ensures alignment with institutional goals, regulatory requirements, and fiscal controls.
The Assistant Director exercises authority over budget development, capital renewal programs, and major repair and renovation initiatives. The role provides second-level leadership to maintenance and grounds operations through the Facilities Manager and is responsible for organizational planning, policy development, and performance oversight.
This position serves as the primary liaison to Georgia Center leadership, the Office of University Architects, and the Facilities Management Division, representing the division in executive coordination, planning, and project delivery.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Knowledge:
Facilities operations, building systems, and regulatory compliance requirements
Capital planning, construction project delivery, and design processes
University procurement, contracting, and fiscal management policies
National, State, and University construction code and design standards
Skills:
Developing and managing operating and capital budgets
Leading complex construction and renovation projects
Interpreting design documents, drawings, and technical specifications
Strategic planning and organizational development

- Conduct site visits to active construction and maintenance locations, including confined or elevated spaces
- Work outdoors or in active construction environments under varying weather conditions
- Participating in emergency response situations, which may require work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays

• Direct resolution of complex operational issues; escalating or delegating routine matters through the Facilities Manager
• Review and approve major personnel actions, including workforce planning, hiring, compensation, and disciplinary recommendations
• Evaluate operational performance and implement improvements to increase efficiency, consistency, and service quality

• Direct planning, design, and execution of capital construction and renovation projects in coordination with OUA and FMD
• Establish project scope, budget, and priorities to align with institutional goals
• Review and approve design documents, construction plans, and specifications
• Conduct site oversight to verify compliance with project scope, design intent, and quality standards
• Serve as primary liaison with architects, engineers, contractors, and university stakeholders throughout project delivery

• Engage campus stakeholders to align renovation priorities with programmatic and operational needs
