Some of what you'll be doing: There are two (2) available positions for this opportunity: one summer internship and one full-year internship. These positions will work directly with the Facilities and Infrastructure (F&I) Architecture team to support the architectural review of a multi-billion dollar capital development at SEA and provide valuable insight into the details of aviation architecture. The position provides a unique opportunity to understand the “owner’s” perspective including exposure to current projects in all phases of design and construction, at all project scales. Intern will work closely with team of four licensed architects and will receive 1:1 mentoring to develop design, technical, and professional skills. Unique professional development opportunity to interact with nationally recognized architecture firms working at SEA. These positions are eligible for NCARB AxP credits.
Some of your essential duties will include:
Support Asset Management asset verification with research, site walks, data/photo collection, and data entry. Research record documents such as plans, specifications, submittals, and technical reports to verify existing infrastructure locations. Attend project meetings, job site walks, Architecture Design review meetings, and assist with internal design discussions and meeting minutes. Conceptual development and technical drawings for small scale projects. Support and manage architecture library development, including researching, cataloging new materials, and organizing vendor meetings and continuing education events. Support Architecture and Landscape Guidelines and Standards updates, including research, cross-referencing other standards or specifications, graphic design, photography, and documenting existing conditions. Assisting with Accessibility Facility Audits and attending SEA Accessibility Advisory Committee Meetings. Support the development of the external Architecture website.
Who you are:
A Student – You must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program or completed fourth (4th) year of a five (5) year Bachelor of Architecture program or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) of a graduate degree program related to Architecture.

Organized and Proactive – You must have the ability to read construction drawings and understand basic drafting principles. You’re adept to listen well, ask questions, follow directions, and work independently for multiple hours at a time.
Communicator – You possess strong analytical, organizational, time management skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desired – We hope you have previous experience in an architecture firm or public agency. Exposure to design and/or construction process.
What else you need to know:
Work Schedule – This is a full-time (40 hours per week) internship position in the summer. One of the two positions will be extended to part-time hours during the school year. Normal work hours will be scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.
Work Environment – You will primarily work in an office environment. Some telework may be available with manager approval.
Limited Duration – This is a limited-duration position and is expected to last no longer than one year (year long position). The summer only position may last up to five months.
Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
