Job Summary / Basic Function:
The Department of Criminal Justice, History, and Politics in the College of Education, Arts and Humanities at Pennsylvania Western University is seeking qualified applicants to teach at the Clarion campus starting in the Fall 2026 term. The position requests expertise in General History, with the ability to teach a broad range of subjects.
Courses will be delivered through various modalities, including online instruction, but an emphasis will be placed on in-person instruction at the Clarion campus. All positions are contingent on enrollment.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Strong command of instructional methods and assessment techniques for history education.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and intercultural skills.
- Ability to engage, motivate, and support a diverse student population.
- Commitment to inclusive and student-centered teaching practices.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to program growth.
- Willingness to take an active role in campus life, including advising History majors and providing faculty leadership for the Clarion History Club.
- Interest in developing partnerships and opportunities within the regional community.
Minimum of Education / TrainingRequired Education Summary:
- Master's degree or higher in History or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience teaching History at the college or university level.
- Proficiency in using learning management systems (e.g., D2L, Canvas) and digital instructional tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate (Ph.D.) in History or related field.
- Specialization or expertise in Non-US History.
- Secondary Education experience, or Teacher Certification, which would allow the successful candidate to teach select courses within the Education department.
- Experience teaching in face-to-face, online, and multi-modal formats.
- Experience in academic advising and student mentoring.
- Experience with program assessment and curriculum development.
