The Substitute Teacher for the SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start Program in East St. Louis will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality early childhood education. Tasked with a wide range of responsibilities, the individual will facilitate developmentally appropriate lesson plans, including activities during Family Style Dining, and implement the adopted curriculum tailored to young learners' needs. Additionally, managing classroom behavior, individualizing instruction, and conducting essential screenings and assessments are key duties. This role requires maintaining meticulous records, scheduling and conducting home visits and parent-teacher conferences, and obtaining as well as managing child outcome data efficiently. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and stimulating learning environment for children.
What You Will Do
- Implement the program curriculum and Head Start Performance Standards into the preparation of developmentally appropriate lesson plans. In charge of the facilitation of children's learning.
- Organize the classroom in well-developed and defined learning centers, while maintaining a classroom environment that is clean, safe and free of clutter.
- Manages the classroom operations, including behavior, using appropriate child guidance techniques. Plans appropriate activities for assistants and volunteers.
- Engage with the children at all times including in the classroom, on the playground and during transitional times.
- Work collaboratively with all program staff to maintain on-going professional and appropriate communication with parents.
- Work collaboratively with all program staff to observe children in assigned classroom environments and make appropriate communication with parents.
- Maintains accurate classroom records, including attendance records. Participate in Center Staff meetings and Head Start program meetings.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Tier 1
A Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education;
or
Tier 2
- Possess an Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or 60 college credits with at least 6 hours in Early Childhood Education and coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education with experience teaching infants/toddlers and/or preschool aged children; or
- One year of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours of credits from an accredited college or university; or
- Completion of credentialing programs approved by the Department in accordance with Appendix G of Early Childhood Teacher Credentialing Programs ( Child Development Associate Credential, Certified Childcare Professional, Gateways to Opportunity Credentials).

Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles. SIUE is a state university, and it's important to highlight that benefits from state-sponsored plans may not be accessible to individuals on F1 or J1 visas.
