Job DescriptionUniversity of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a Senior Manager, Custodial & Environmental Services to join the Department of Facilities Operations. The incumbent will oversee daily environmental services operations by supervising shift managers and staff, ensuring service quality, compliance with standards, and timely delivery across assigned areas. Acts as a working supervisor, coordinating with customers and internal teams, addressing routine, unanticipated, and emergency service needs, and providing leadership in the absence of senior management. Supports continuous improvement through staff training, scheduling, hiring, performance management, reporting, policy enforcement, and operational recommendations, while also managing special operations such as fleet use, snow crews, and other related duties as required.

PRIMARY DUTIES
- Provides visual inspection and service quality assurance in areas of responsibility. Monitors work in progress and ensures compliance with projected results, service delivery schedules and standards.
- Supervises the daily operation of day shift managers and assigns duties in a designated area to ensure environmental services are adequately provided.
- Ensures all environmental service functions are delivered efficiently and effectively for assigned area and shift.
- Communicates and coordinates with customers, peers and other organization units as necessary to deliver environmental services.
- Serves as a working supervisor to meet demands and needs of the situation. Fulfills the responsibilities of a Manager or staff member when required. Acts in the capacity of the Assistant Director - EVS, when assigned, in their absence.
- Assists in preparing reports and making recommendations to improve the quality of services, cost control, and customer and employee satisfaction.
- May oversee and recommend changes to the internal operating procedures.
- Evaluates, trains, coaches and schedules managers and staff as needed. Participates in the hiring process and delivers progressive disciplinary action when required.
- Evaluates unanticipated and emergency service needs that arise during shift, determines level of action.
- Reports and assists in evaluating unanticipated and emergency service needs that arise during shift, determines level of action required and tasks staff accordingly. Determines strategy and provides follow-up with management in affected area.
- Enforces processes, practices, and/or policies. May recommend changes to internal operating procedures whenever necessary.
- Operates university fleet vehicles that may include automobiles, buses, vans, and trucks.
- May manage snow crew operations and staff to include on-call rotations for management coverage.
- Perform other related tasks as required.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: Seven (7) years progressively responsible related experience on a scale equivalent to duties and responsibilities of this job
Supervisory Experience: Four (4) years management or supervisory experience required.
Certification/Licensure: N/A
Other: May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.
Valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate class and endorsement codes. If required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License, employees will be subjected to drug and alcohol education and testing as required under Federal Highway Administration and the State of Maryland regulations.
Employees in this job class must maintain the required driver's license with no more than 5 points.

HIRING RANGE: $78,000 - $85,000 per year / Commensurate with education and experience
