Under general supervision (while working independently most of the time), the Senior Analyst - Credit Risk in Wealth Management is responsible for conducting in-depth credit analysis of high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), privately held businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and commercial real estate clients. The Senior Analyst will analyze financial data using tools such as Moody's Credit Lens, assess creditworthiness, and develop credit analysis reports to support underwriting and lending decisions.
In this role, the Senior Analyst manages complex credit analysis assignments, mentors junior analysts, and ensures the accuracy and quality of credit spreads. The Senior Analyst also works on strategic and special projects identified by management.
Collaboration with relationship managers and internal stakeholders is required to structure credit facilities that align with clients' wealth management goals while adhering to Northern Trust's risk management. This position offers exposure to sophisticated financial products, a dynamic work environment, and opportunities to develop expertise in credit analysis for the wealth management sector.
Key Responsibilities:
• Analyzes financial statements, credit reports, and economic data to assess the creditworthiness of individuals or businesses.
• Prepares comprehensive credit reports with a high degree of independence, focusing on operational performance, financial health, and identification of key risk mitigants.
• Monitors borrower performance and ensures timely identification of potential risks by conducting thorough annual reviews.
• Mentors junior analysts to ensure adherence to established standards and guidelines.
• Contributes to division-wide initiatives and special projects as assigned by management.
• Collaborates with onshore partners and relationship managers to develop tailored credit solutions.
• Ensures adherence to Northern Trust's credit policies, compliance standards, process-related guidelines, and controls.
• Consistently adheres to established QUALITY & QUANTITY SLAs.
• Stays informed about market trends, regulatory changes, and economic factors affecting credit risk.
• Pays attention to detail to ensure all documents are processed correctly.
• Identifies process changes to improve productivity and efficiency.
Key Qualifications:
Education
• An MBA or master's degree in finance, accounting, or business administration (or equivalent) with 2-4 years of post-qualification experience in lending and credit analysis is required.
• Additional certifications such as CFA, FRM, CMA, etc., are considered advantageous but are not mandatory.
Experience
24 months as Analyst, Credit Analysis
• Experience in financial spreading and credit memo underwriting, strong financial analysis and analytical skills. Familiarity with lending products such as lines of credit and term loans is required.
• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to multitask, work independently, and handle competing priorities under pressure.
• Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner, effectively telling the story behind financials in a compelling way.
• Ability to research issues/problems and provide a 'solution-based' approach
• Excellent verbal and written communication and partnering skills. A confident and personable attitude with the ability to communicate effectively with onshore relationship managers and other stakeholders
• Self-motivated individual to go beyond immediate responsibilities
• Familiarity with Moody's Credit Lens or similar credit spreading tools. Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word and other Microsoft 365 tools.
• Capability to coach and mentor junior team members.
About the Team
This position is within the Financial Risk Division, organizationally aligned under Global Risk. The department plays a pivotal role in the credit underwriting process, monitoring loans, assessing risks across credit portfolios thereby safeguarding the organization's financial stability by ensuring rigorous credit analysis, adherence to regulatory standards, and the implementation of robust risk mitigation strategies. Through its oversight and expertise, the Financial Risk Division contributes significantly to the institution's overall risk management framework, supporting prudent lending decisions and promoting long-term organizational resilience.
The Credit Services division serves the Northern Trust Wealth Management customers including Global Family Office clients through a range of lending services, including but not limited to Secured, Unsecured loans to Individuals, and their privately held entities, and Commercial Real estate lending.
