- SCS Parent Coordinator
Description
The Parent Coordinator at Oglesby Elementary School plays a critical role in fostering strong family and community engagement. Guided by the Sustainable Community Schools (SCS) Principles and Pillars, this position connects families to school and community resources, coordinates adult learning programs, and strengthens relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners.
The Parent Coordinator advances equity, authentic engagement, and a whole-child approach to support student and family success through culturally relevant and inclusive initiatives.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Parent & Community Engagement
Serve as the primary contact for parent and community programming.
Connect parents with afterschool, enrichment, and wrap-around supports and opportunities.
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and family-friendly environment that reflects racial justice, equity, and cultural relevance.
Build authentic, trusting relationships with parents, school staff, and community partners.
Facilitate authentic parent engagement by ensuring parents have a seat at the table in the SCS Leadership Team.
Engage parents in decision-making, needs assessments, and review of engagement goals in Oglesby’s CIWP.
Organize family workshops and adult programming based on family-identified needs (e.g., GED, English language learning, workforce development, certification programs).
Support parent leadership development, social-emotional learning (SEL), and professional development opportunities, including SCS Summer Institute and
professional learning days.
Promote participation in school initiatives.
Program Coordination & Administration
Plan, coordinate, and track adult learning programs and workshops aligned with high-quality teaching and SCS principles.
Maintain accurate attendance and participation records in Cityspan.
Track adult program outcomes and use data to inform improvements.
Lead recruitment and retention efforts for adult participants.
Assist in the planning and execution of family engagement events that build community pride and reflect a whole-child approach.
Support dissemination of school and community engagement successes to build transparency and community pride.
Collaboration & Professional Learning
Work closely with Oglesby administration, the SCS Coordinator, GAGDC, and community partners to align efforts.
Engage in consistent meetings with the SCS team to monitor progress and share updates.
Attend professional development to deepen knowledge of SCS frameworks, equity-centered practices, and culturally responsive programming.
Other Duties
Perform other duties as assigned to support school and SCS goals.

Qualifications
Eligible to work in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and able to pass CPS background check.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
Demonstrated professionalism, empathy, and respect toward diverse stakeholders.
Commitment to equity-driven practices and the well-being of students and families.
Experience building trusting relationships with parents, students, and school staff.
Familiarity with Oglesby Elementary School and surrounding Auburn Gresham community.
