Description
Provide visionary and instructional leadership for an alternative learning high school that
supports personalized, flexible, and mastery-based pathways to graduation. In partnership with
staff, students, families, and community organizations, the principal creates equitable learning
environments where every student has access to meaningful learning opportunities, alternative
pathways, and the supports necessary to graduate prepared for postsecondary success.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Two years as a school principal or assistant principal preferred.
2. Current Washington principal credential.
3. Demonstrated experience working with students who benefit from alternative or
nontraditional learning environments.
4. Experience working in a diverse learning environment and demonstrated experience
advancing antiracism and equity work.
5. Master’s degree in education with an emphasis in educational administration or related
field.
6. At least five years successful experience as a secondary certificated teacher or related
service provider.
7. Demonstrated skills as an instructional leader with experience supporting personalized,
project-based, and competency-based learning models.
8. Experience implementing or supervising Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) programs,
credit recovery systems, or other flexible pathways to graduation preferred.
9. Sound understanding of Standards-Based Instruction, Mastery/Competency-Based
Learning, Universal Design for Learning, and Culturally Responsive Education.
10.Experience collaborating with community partners to support student engagement, reengagement, and wraparound supports preferred.
11.Biliterate in Spanish preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Create a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive school environment where all students
experience belonging and support.
2. Lead the design and implementation of personalized learning pathways that allow students
to progress based on demonstrated mastery of standards.
3. Oversee alternative learning models including flexible scheduling, credit retrieval/recovery,
project-based learning, and blended or independent learning structures.
4. Ensure that instruction and assessment practices support mastery-based progression and
authentic demonstrations of student learning.

5. Develop systems that support student engagement, re-engagement, and successful
completion of graduation requirements.
6. Create schoolwide structures that support physical, social, emotional, and intellectual
safety, including restorative practices and trauma-informed approaches.
7. Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a data-driven school
improvement plan using multiple measures of student learning, engagement, and progress
toward graduation.
8. Support staff in designing instruction aligned with state standards while allowing flexibility in
pacing, demonstration of learning, and student voice.
9. Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations related to Alternative
Learning Experiences (ALE) and other instructional models.
10.Manage human and fiscal resources to support innovative learning models and studentcentered instruction.
11.Partner with families, community organizations, and postsecondary institutions to expand
learning opportunities and remove barriers to student success.
12.Develop systems that ensure equitable access to alternative pathways for students
historically underserved by traditional school structures.
13.Demonstrate a commitment to closing opportunity and achievement gaps through culturally
responsive leadership and equitable practices.
