Description
It's never business as usual in the Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP) at the Indiana University (IU) College of Arts and Sciences. More and more, employers are looking for graduates from the liberal arts and sciences who know how to manage projects, people, systems, and organizations. We offer 2 distinct paths for students who are interested in the intersection of business and liberal arts: our major in Management + Human Organization, and our LAMP honors certificate. Through courses in the College and the IU Kelley School of Business, LAMP students challenge the status quo, explore many perspectives, boost their credentials, and prepare to become great leaders.Job Summary
This position is responsible for the overall operation and success of the program. Working with the Program Director and the Program Manager, the Assistant Director ensures students in the program practice critical thinking, learn effective written and oral communications skills and acquire a strong background in business practices that prepare them for successful professional careers.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Recruits qualified, honors-level students for the LAMP certificate program by collaborating closely with academic advisors, faculty, Living Learning Centers, and residence halls
- Adapts recruitment strategies to reflect recent eligibility changes that open the program to students from all schools on campus, not just the College of Arts and Sciences.
- Coordinates outreach and promotion in collaboration with the Student Advisory Board and Program Coordinator through info sessions, marketing materials, and web content updates.
- Manages the application and selection process, including collecting applications, supporting the selection committee, and advising admitted students on academic planning.
- Advises LAMP students academically, helping them build viable academic plans that meet program requirements and explore study abroad opportunities.
- Engages with the broader academic advising community to stay current and ensure best practices in student advising.
- Fosters a vibrant academic community by supporting connections among students, alumni, and faculty.
- Leads co-curricular and extracurricular programming, including events that involve alumni and partnerships with other academic units.
- Markets and distributes LAMP scholarships, advising students through the application process, verifying eligibility, and awarding scholarships using IU Scholarships and donor intent criteria.
- Coordinates with the Program Manager on processing reimbursements from foundation accounts.
- Hires and supervises student interns responsible for student-facing communications and seasonal alumni outreach.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for LAMP alumni, developing engagement opportunities, coordinating events, and facilitating student-internship matches.
- Collaborates with development directors from the College and Foundation to connect alumni more closely with the program.
- Prepares and submits updates to the College Bulletin and ensure timely documentation.
- Contributes to the annual Elvira report in partnership with the Director.
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives that touch on various/multiple student-related goals, such as enhancing and reinforcing academic engagement and experiential learning; increasing student engagement, wellness, and involvement; fostering learning, inclusion, and development; supporting students in crisis and adversity; and improving the student campus experience.
- Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting 1-on-1 to discuss areas of concern on campus, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives.
- Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student services goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs and initiatives.
- Projects outcomes for services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level. Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student services against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports on impact to students and budget and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
- Serves on committees and performs student services research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
- Plans and coordinates communications for student services initiatives to ensure student participation and engagement.
- May provide guidance to other student services staff; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.
- May serve on various campus or cross-functional committees to share student services best practices.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in public affairs, counseling, social work, education, business, or related field
- Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
