What Your Job Will Be LikeThe CIO Portfolio Management office, is seeking a motivated Year-Round Undergraduate Intern to join our dynamic team.
We are seeking a self-motivated and creative individual to assist in IT Project Management and Government Risk and Compliance activities. Primary job duties include acting as a junior project manager to successfully complete high priority projects in the Office of the CIO. The successful candidate must be team oriented with excellent communication and customer service skills, agility in adapting to change, and ability to engage and collaborate with high-performing, diverse teams.
- Respond to time critical ad-hoc action items, utilize critical thinking skills to solve complex issues and have the ability to be agile and flexible
- Design, develop, and facilitate planning and process improvements
- Assist in keeping all Portfolio Modernization initiative(s) within scope, schedule and cost
- Design interactive reports and visualizations.
- Analyze business and technical processes to formulate technology solutions
- Work with IT and business stakeholders to document functional and business requirements
- Provide adhoc OCIO Portfolio Support
- Participate in compliance reviews and audits: prepare evidence packages, coordinate interviews, and summarize findings to facilitate risk-based decisions.
- Liaise between business units, IT teams, and external partners to clarify requirements, escalate issues, and ensure customer proficiency in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) activities.
- Contribute to policy and procedure updates: research industry best practices, draft guidance documents, and support training materials.
The selected applicant can be a remote worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required.
Salary Range
At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
Note: If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.
Qualifications We Desire
- Pursuing B.S. in Business Administration, Project Management

- Ability to review and understand end-to-end work processes.
- Ability to work closely with customers and suppliers to define expectations and mutual responsibilities.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders, clients, designers, developers, and engineers to spec appropriate software licensing requirements and manage enterprise licensing agreements
- Works independently or in conjunction with other
- Strong Sense of urgency to deliver on tasks/projects
- Takes initiative and accountability when assigned a task
- Self-starter and good time management skills

The CIO Strategies and Architecture department is responsible for facilitating and leading the strategic vision for Sandia's information environment and information technology (IT) assets and producing the 3 year IT Strategic Roadmap. Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
