Description
OverviewThis position provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of Meadowbrook Golf Course and its golf shop. Responsibilities include the administration, planning, coordination, and management of all aspects of facility operations. This role is focused on delivering exceptional customer experiences through safe and sustainable facilities, engaging programming, and high-quality services for the public.
Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Recreation Management, Golf Management, or related field required.
- Five years of progressive leadership experience in golf shop operations required, including facility management, budgeting, and program coordination.
- Must be a Class A PGA or LPGA member in good standing for at least three years and maintain active membership throughout employment.
- Must possess a valid South Dakota Driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days from date of hire.
Essential Responsibilities
- Plans and promotes tournaments, leagues, club activities, and special events to enhance the public profile of Meadowbrook Golf Course, increase participation, and strengthen community engagement.
- Provides golf instruction through private lessons and group programming for youth, juniors, adults, seniors and veterans. Partners with schools, nonprofits, and PGA/LPGA programs (e.g., PGA Hope,
- PGA Jr. League, First Tee) to offer accessible and inclusive programming.
- Manages retail, cart rental and beverage service operations by overseeing merchandise selection, vendor negotiations, and inventory control.
- Supervises and trains golf operations personnel, ensuring effective staffing and performance.
- Oversees financial operations, including customer transactions, cash deposits, daily reconciliations, and reporting. Analyzes operational data and customer trends using tee sheets, POS, and financial software.
- Prepares and monitors the budget in partnership the Recreation Division Manager. Submits monthly and annual operational reports, including data on rounds played, revenue, participation patterns, and customer feedback.
- Contributes to policy development by providing input on operational policies aligned with industry best practices.
- Addresses customer and employee concerns with professionalism and empathy to maintain a positive and responsive service environment.
- Ensures compliance with safety standards, ADA accessibility, and emergency procedures. Trains staff on customer safety, incident response, and risk management protocols.
- Coordinates with the Golf Course Superintendent on maintenance schedules, tournament setup, daily course conditions, and long-range planning to ensure a seamless experience for players.
- Assists in the development of short- and long-term capital improvement plans for Meadowbrook Golf Course.
- Provides advisory information to the Mayor, City Council, Parks and Recreation Board, media outlets and the general public.
Work Environment:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, assisting customers and employees with daily play, programming, golf instruction, and other operational activities in varying weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use their hands, speak, and listen. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with their hands and arms. The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close-range vision. Good eye coordination is needed to operate a computer keyboard, golf carts, radios and other equipment.
