Job Summary
The Hardware Technician I is a pre-intermediate position responsible for the disassembly, repair, overhaul, modification, alignment, assembly, and diagnostic testing of mechanical systems. This role involves working with complex equipment and ensuring all systems meet required specifications and operational standards.
Essential Job Functions
Perform operational diagnostics, analysis, disassembly, repair, overhaul, modification, and final inspection of systems to ensure conformance to specifications.
Disassemble and inventory mechanical components and systems.
Use engineering drawings, schematics, and technical directives to fabricate subsystems or units.
Troubleshoot systems, perform repairs, and conduct final operational checks.
Utilize hand tools, calibrated tools, and power tools such as torque wrenches, micrometers, and gauges.
Remove and install components to support repairs and maintenance.
Rework hydraulic/pneumatic components, including actuators, valve assemblies, and pumps.
Assist in testing and inspecting systems for alignment, performance, and defects.
Adjust, repair, or replace parts to ensure proper system operation.
Align and assemble subcomponents and structural assemblies using measuring tools and fixtures.
Clean, oil, and prepare components for assembly.
Determine repair requirements using technical manuals.
Safely handle equipment and materials.
Work standard and alternate schedules, including overtime as required.
Travel occasionally for off-site assignments.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of aerodynamics related to fixed or rotary wing aircraft or missiles.
Understanding of mechanical, structural, hydraulic, and pneumatic aircraft systems.
Familiarity with actuator systems, air systems, engines, landing gear, and control systems.
Knowledge of materials such as metals, plastics, and lubricants.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
Proficiency with hand tools, measuring instruments, and testing equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex systems.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to obtain required security clearance.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Minimum of three (3) years of related experience required.
Experience with aircraft mechanical, structural, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems preferred.
