POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Pro-Shop Attendants
POSITION REPORTS TO: Dir. of Golf Course Operations/Superintendent
BLS COMPARABLE: 41-1012, First-Line Supervisors of Non-Retail Sales Workers
LEADERSHIP: Provides co-worker leadership to others through motivation, team building, and providing feedback.

POSITION PURPOSE: To enhance the quality of life of Enid residents and attract tourists through the development, coordination, and maintenance of Meadowlake Golf Course, its programs, tournaments, and facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Deliver outstanding customer service, ensuring a positive and welcoming experience.
- Oversee daily operation of the golf shop and practice facilities.
- Assist in coordinating and facilitating junior's, men's, women's, and high school golf programs.
- Offer, market and run golf clinics/lessons and assist with school teams that practice at the course.
- Provide event coordination during golf tournaments, events and leagues, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently.
- Serve as primary contact for customers at pro-shop and assist in recommending products for purchase or order.
- Provides first line supervision of pro-shop, to include providing training and instruction, develop work schedules, coordinate staffing needs.
- Remove grips and install new grips on customers' clubs.
- Use point-of-sale system to compute charges for merchandise, green fees, cart rental fees, and yearly membership fees; receive payments.
- Prepare and price merchandise for display, purchase, or rental.
- Recommend and provide advice on a wide variety of golf related products, specialty items, and services.
- Pull out and stage golf carts, ensure they are clean and in good working order.
- Operate golf range cart to pick the range, clean balls and load into the range machine on occasion.
- Answer telephones and provide information.
- Communicate effectively and often with Director of Operations to ensure the needs of customers are met and appropriate rules and policies are in place.
- Explain rental fees, policies and procedures.
- Balance the cash register and record daily revenues.
- Listen to and resolve customer complaints regarding services, products, or personnel.
- Provide staff with assistance in performing difficult or complicated duties.
- Provide assistance to other departments as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
- Provide professional service to the golfing public.
- The Pro Shop runs smoothly and efficiently.
- Golf tournaments and corporate events are well coordinated.
- Excellent customer service is provided to customers.
- The Pro Shop appears clean and user friendly.
- Cash registers are accurately balanced and all revenues are documented.
- Effective working relations exist with City personnel.
- New employees are well trained and assisted. Management is appropriately informed.
- Employee understands and adheres to applicable safety policies.
- The City's professional reputation is maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Associate's Degree (A.A.) or equivalent two-year college or technical school; three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
Class A Member of the PGA of America or working towards a Class A membership with ability to maintain within 2 years.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
Sales and Marketing: Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services.
Administration and Management: Knowledge of business and management principles leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
Economics and Accounting: Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices.
English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to use cash register and make change.
- Prioritize, organize, and delegate assignments.
- Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Accurate and attentive to detail.
- Excellent communications and public relations abilities.
- Ability to assist and support others.
- Able to operate telephone, PC, copier, and other basic business machines.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
FINGER DEXTERITY:
Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers.
VISUAL ABILITIES:
Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses.
PHYSICAL STRENGTH:
Employee lifts/carries 50 lbs occasionally. Moderate physical activity performing daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature. Occasional overhead reaching and lifting, bending and kneeling.
LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
MATHEMATICS ABILITY:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units or measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to computer rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS:
Regular: 8-hour shift typically, Monday through Sunday, varying hours based on season. Some evening, holidays and weekends required.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor retail sales setting with adequate ventilation. Frequent outdoor exposure in varying weather conditions, including summer heat.
NOISE LEVEL:
Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
OTHER WORK CONDITIONS:
None.
ADVANCEMENT CRITERIA
INTERMEDIATE:
Bachelor's Degree in related field.
6-8 years' experience in related field.
Advanced supervisory skills.
Understanding of safety regulations affecting department.
Promotion and Marketing Skills & Training.
Training in golf course, turf management, or landscape design.
Class A-1 PGA Golf Professional.
Continuing PGA education.
Valid CPR Certification.
ADVANCED:
Master's Degree in related field.
9+ years' experience as a Golf Professional.
Masters Professional Certification.
Ability to implement safety procedures.
Specialty Certification in PGA Golf Programs.
Assumes additional responsibility in absence of Dir. of Golf Operations/Superintendent.
