POSITION SUMMARY:
Works with the Parks and Recreation Department to set diverse programming opportunities. Manage all aspects of daily operations at the Emmet County Fairgrounds including facility reservations, event coordination and event tours.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (may include but are not limited to the following)
- Manages daily administrative park functions, including customer service, Fairgrounds event & facility reservations, handling daily financials, ordering materials and supplies, and any other necessary paperwork.
- Oversees the online reservation system and submits daily transmittals for all online reservations entered and paid through the online reservations system.
- Plans, Develops, and manages a variety of recreation and cultural programs at all Emmet County Parks, including; Headlands International Dark Sky Park, Camp Petosega, McGulpin Point Lighthouse, and the Emmet County Fairgrounds.
- Manages the Park Programming and Fairgrounds budget in collaboration with the Director of Parks and Recreation.
- Oversee the marketing of all Park Programs through social media content creation and the distribution of brochures, publication in community calendars, press releases, posters, flyers, and other promotional materials for Park Programming events.
- Follows up on facility rental leads and converts leads to bookings. Networks with Bridal, Corporate and special interest events sites to increase bookings.
- Collaborates and works with Park Managers regarding programming logistics, Directs and works alongside staff and volunteers.
- Prepares and maintains statistical records and reports related to recreation programs, facilities and projects. Prepares pre and post formas to determine the viability and success of each program, for future budgeting and staffing purposes.
- Collaborates with multiple different County Departments including IT, Maintenance, Finance and Treasury, and many other outside organizations.
- Works with Facility Maintenance personnel to ensure grounds, buildings, snow removal, and facility cleanliness.
- Manage donations, sponsorships, contributions for programs and events.
- Assists as needed during the Emmet/Charlevoix County Fair.
Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Possesses 1 – 3 years of recreational experience and has an understanding of recreational philosophy, planning and administration. Proficient in events sales, planning and coordination. Able to work on and build effective teams. Experience in networking, sales and closing the deal. Must have strong organizational and follow through abilities. Experience in supervising others. Effective communications skills with co-workers and the general public, including the ability to prepare reports; effective public relations and public speaking skills. Has the ability to problem solve and utilize creative thinking. Has the ability to collaborate with others, works as a team as well as individually to accomplish successful programming. Has the ability and skill to market programs to the public. Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, analytical presentation and presentation software sufficient to create/prepare reports and presentations, manage databases, and track projects. Highly proficient in managing social media advertising/marketing. Experience with Contract management is preferred but
not required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Park Planning, Park & Recreation
- Administration, Leisure Services, Facility Management, Business or Public Administration or a related field.
- At least one year – preferably 2-3 years’ experience in professional-level recreation work including programming, events sales and coordination and park operation.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED
- CPR & First Aid certification within six months of date of employment.
- Valid Michigan Driver’s license.
