Description
The Facilities Supervisor – Night Custodial and General Maintenance is responsible for planning, supervising, and supporting the District’s night custodial, general maintenance, and energy services operations. This role ensures the effective execution of preventative maintenance, energy conservation programs, minor and major facility repairs, quality control, and the ongoing training and evaluation of night shift staff. The Facilities Supervisor works under the direction of the Director of Facilities and in close collaboration with both the Facilities Manager of Maintenance and the Facilities Manager of Custodial Services. Responsibilities include assigning work orders, overseeing custodial substitutes, monitoring the budget, managing custodial supplies, and coordinating with energy service contractors.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities and in collaboration with the Facilities Managers of Maintenance and Custodial, oversee the night custodial, general maintenance, and energy services operations for all district facilities.
Assist in the recruitment, selection, hiring, assignment, supervision, and evaluation of night custodial and general maintenance personnel. Promote positive communication, professional growth, and accountability.
Develop and implement schedules and procedures for regular custodial, general maintenance, and energy conservation activities on the night shift. Perform routine facility inspections to ensure high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, repair, and operational efficiency.
Develop, deliver, and monitor safety training and in-service programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Oversee the proper use and storage of cleaning agents and maintenance materials.
Assess facility needs and recommend budgetary requirements to support long-range maintenance goals. Assist in the administration of the night shift custodial, maintenance, and energy conservation budgets, including contract and purchase order preparation.
Maintain, organize, and support the district’s work order, asset management, custodial, and facility use software systems in collaboration with the Facilities Managers.
Provide direct support to building principals and school staff to ensure a safe, clean, and supportive environment that contributes to student learning and instructional effectiveness.
Develop and maintain an inventory of custodial equipment: schedule repairs and preventative maintenance to ensure operational readiness.
Prepare annual reports summarizing night custodial and general maintenance activities, accomplishments, and areas for improvement.
Notify the Director of Facilities of employee performance issues that may require disciplinary action.
Review and approve custodial supply orders submitted by Head Custodians.
Provide training to night shift employees on energy conservation strategies, including methods to reduce electrical loads in district facilities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or their designee.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Director of Facilities.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Required to meet inflexible deadlines; required to perform repetitive tasks continuously.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
They may be called in for emergencies and must stand for prolonged periods. Lifting, moving, or carrying objects weighing more than seventy (70) pounds is required, and occasionally wearing protective gear or clothing is required. Take precautions to avoid exposure when occasionally handling potentially harmful chemicals or materials. They are occasionally required to work outdoors in inclement weather. Required to work in confined work areas and needed to work in freezers and refrigerated spaces and periodically required to work in non-routine positions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Associate degree or equivalent. Five years of experience in building maintenance and supervising a large facility complex. Experience as a custodial supervisor in a large facility or equivalent. The skills to complete the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Allowable Substitutions
Alternative combinations of training and experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. Subject to Human Resources review.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Skill in oral and written communication. Skill and accuracy in arithmetic for inventory management. Skill and accuracy in record keeping and inventory control. Skill in scheduling and coordinating. Ability to identify problems and provide solutions within the scope of the position. Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, loading ramps, and related equipment. Ability to drive, shift, and clutch a variety of vehicles. Ability to use a computerized inventory system. Knowledge of safety and security procedures and practices. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Skill in time management. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Required to assign, schedule, and coordinate work. Practical customer relation skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of others. Passage of a pre-employment physical is required (the district will assume the cost).
Licenses/Special Requirements
Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury, or neglect of a minor. A valid Washington State driver's license is required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time (8 hours per day), full-year (260 days a year) position. Adjustable/Flexible shift during evening hours.
