WORK DAYS PER FISCAL YEAR: 210 days per year
SUMMARY: The principal serves as the instructional leader of the campus. The principal also creates a positive and inclusive school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching for students. The principal develops and sustains focus on a shared mission and clear vision for improvement of learning and teaching.

The following criteria aligns to the AWSP Leadership Framework. A North Beach School District Elementary Principal is required to:
Influence, establish and sustain a school culture conducive to continuous improvement for students and staff.
Provide for physical, social, emotional, and intellectual safety.
Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the data-driven plan for improvement of student achievement.
As the instructional leader, assist staff in aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessments with state and local learning goals.
Monitor, assist and evaluate staff utilizing an instruction framework (Danielson) regarding the implementation of the school improvement plan, effective instruction and assessment practices.
Manage self, staff, and fiscal resources that align and support student achievement.
Communicate and partner with school community members, particularly those that have been underserved, to promote student learning.
Demonstrate a commitment to closing the opportunity and achievement gap.

Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in educational administration or related field required.
Minimum of five years prior successful teaching experience at the elementary level.
Demonstrated leadership and management qualities.
Evidence of experience and training needed to perform the functions described in the principal’s job description.
Knowledge of Washington state school reform initiatives and mandates.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Successful Experience Preferred:
As an administrator at similar grade level.
Evaluating and supervising classified and certificated staff.
Planning and administrating an effective student discipline/attendance program.
Development of educational programs consistent with school reform and assessment.
Encouraging excellence in staff and students.
Facilitating positive communication among staff, parents, and students.
The application and use of technologies and the development of a teaching schedule.
Knowledge and understanding of Teacher Principal Evaluation Project (TPEP) and the Danielson Framework for Teaching.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Washington State Principal Certification
Washington State Teaching Certificate
