Position Title: Director of the Doctorate in Social Work
Department: Carver School of Social Work
Immediate Supervisor: Michelle Tucker, PhD-Dean of the College of Mental Health and Dean of the Carver School of Social Work
General Summary:
This position reports directly to the Dean of the Carver School of Social Work and is a full-time, 12-month tenure-track faculty appointment. The Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) program is a new initiative within the College of Mental Health and the Carver School of Social Work. The Program Director will serve as a founding leader, guiding the program through its development, implementation, and pursuit of CSWE accreditation. The DSW program is delivered fully online, with required residencies. The Program Director serves in a primarily online capacity but provides on-site leadership during residencies, graduations, recruitment, and other key program events. Periodic campus visits are required; however, relocation to Campbellsville is not necessary.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A Master’s Degree in Social Work and a minimum of two years social work practice
- A PhD, DSW, EdD, or other doctoral degree in social work or a closely related discipline (e.g., behavioral health, counseling, health science, or human services) with demonstrated relevance to social work education, practice or leadership.
- Graduate level social work licensure.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a full-time faculty member within an accredited school of social work; preferred experience teaching at the doctoral level and mentoring or chairing doctoral research or capstone projects.
- Evidence of scholarly or applied research, publications, or professional presentations that advance social work education, practice or leadership.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, course development, advising, and program management.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams), learning management systems (e.g., Moodle or Canvas), and multimedia engagement tools (e.g., VoiceThread or Zoom).
- Ability to function collegially in a team setting and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP AND ACCREDITATION
- Provide strategic leadership for the ongoing development, accreditation compliance, and growth of the DSW program.
- Refine and enhance curriculum, recruitment, and student engagement strategies to ensure academic excellence and relevance.
- Collaborate with the Dean in developing and monitoring program budgets, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with university standards and accreditation requirements.
- Demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and effective problem-solving in administrative decision-making.
- Collaborate effectively with administration, faculty, university divisions, and professional partners to promote program visibility and integrity.
- Maintain the DSW Student Handbook, ensuring updates are reflected across the handbook, website, and catalog.
- Represent the DSW program within the university’s administrative and governance structure, including meetings, committees, and institutional functions.
- Ensure compliance with CSWE and SACSCOC standards and stay informed of licensure requirements across all states where students are enrolled.
- Contribute to annual and five-year strategic planning for the DSW program.
ASSESSMENT AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of outcomes data to meet CSWE and university requirements.
- Use program- and course-level data to evaluate student learning and inform curriculum or assessment revisions.
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of annual CSWE outcomes reports and other university assessment documentation.
- Lead continuous quality improvement processes grounded in evidence-based decision-making.
FACULTY SUPERVISION AND DEVELOPMENT
- Provide direct supervision and leadership for DSW faculty and adjuncts, fostering collaboration and excellence.
- Conduct regular reviews of online courses, including evaluation of course content, instructional materials, and faculty engagement, to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with program standards.
- Recruit, hire, and onboard qualified faculty and adjuncts in coordination with the Dean and university processes.
- Mentor new faculty through structured meetings and guidance on teaching, assessment, and student engagement during their first year.
- Encourage and support faculty and student scholarship consistent with the university’s threefold mission of teaching, scholarship, and service, including research, publication, and professional dissemination.
- Identify professional development needs and facilitate training opportunities that enhance teaching and program quality.
- Address and mediate faculty, adjunct, and student conflicts and grievances in accordance with university policies.
- Complete transcript evaluations for new applicants as needed.
STUDENT RECRUITMENT, ENGAGEMENT, AND RETENTION
- Coordinate student recruitment efforts and events in collaboration with the Dean and relevant departments.
- Maintain accurate recruitment materials and oversee student orientation and residency programming.
- Develop and implement strategies that support student success, engagement, and retention.
- Participate with students in professional learning activities, conferences, and community engagement opportunities.
TEACHING AND CURRICULUM INTEGRATION
- Teach the equivalent of 12 academic credits annually, ensuring high standards of academic rigor and instructional quality.
- Model excellence in teaching and compliance with accreditation and programmatic standards.
- Incorporate culturally competent and faith-integrated content into coursework consistent with the university’s Christian mission.
- Contribute to curricular innovation and doctoral-level pedagogy through teaching across the program.
INTERDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Collaborate across CMH departments and serve on the college leadership team to advance interdisciplinary education, research, and strategic initiatives.
- Foster internal and external partnerships that enhance academic offerings, student support, and community engagement.
- Represent the DSW program and the Carver School in professional and community settings to enhance visibility, partnerships, and collaborative opportunities.
