Description
OverviewThe Oakdale Golf & Country Club Director of Golf is responsible for the leadership and oversight of all golf operations while supporting the General Manager/COO in daily operations and management of the club. This role ensures an exceptional golf experience for members and guests through professional instruction, well-executed tournaments and programs, effective golf shop merchandising, and high service standards.
In addition, the position assists in crafting and implementing club policies, supporting departmental coordination, and serving as acting manager in the General Manager's absence. The Director of Golf also works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to monitor course conditions and ensure alignment between course maintenance, daily play, and tournament operations, while overseeing the carts, range, and outside service operations at the club.
Experience Required
Qualifications
- PGA Class A Professional
- 5-7 years minimum of progressive experience in golf operations at a private club or resort environment.
- 2-3 years minimum experience as either a Head Professional or Director of Golf at a private club or resort environment.
- Demonstrated experience in instruction, tournament management, and golf shop retail operations.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to deliver exceptional member service and build strong relationships with members and staff.
Essential Responsibilities
Golf Operations Management
- Oversee the daily operation of the golf program including tee sheet management, pace of play, member services, and guest play.
- Ensure a high-quality golf experience through professional service, organized operations, and attention to member expectations.
- Coordinate closely with the Golf Course Superintendent regarding course conditions, maintenance schedules, and preparation for tournaments and events.
- Provide feedback and serve as an additional set of eyes regarding course playability and presentation as it relates to member play and tournament operations.
- Oversee the carts, range, and outside services operation at the club.
Instruction, Club-fitting & Player Development
- Lead and oversee the club's golf instruction programs including private lessons, group clinics, junior programs and Academy, and player development initiatives.
- Provide high-quality instruction to members and guests while promoting participation in instructional programs.
- Provide professional club-fitting as necessary while ensuring at least one additional qualified staff point person is always engaged in ongoing professional club-fitting.
- Mentor and support assistant golf professionals in teaching and player development.
Tournament & Event Management
- Plan, organize, and execute the club's golf tournament schedule including member events, leagues, and member guest tournaments.
- Book, organize, and ensure the successful execution of all outside sponsored charity and other similar type golf events that take place at the club.
- Ensure tournaments are professionally managed from registration and pairings to scoring, awards, and member communication.
- Coordinate tournament logistics with golf course maintenance, food and beverage, and club administration to ensure seamless execution.
Golf Shop Retail & Merchandising
- Oversee the golf shop's retail operations including merchandising, purchasing, inventory control, and product presentation.
- Develop merchandising strategies that align with member preferences and maximize retail performance.
- Manage vendor relationships and oversee custom orders, club fittings, and golf equipment sales.
- Maintain an organized, welcoming, and professional retail environment.
Staff Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise golf operations and cart & range operations staff including assistant professionals, golf shop staff, and outside services personnel.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, hospitality, and teamwork.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance evaluations to develop staff and support career growth.
Management Assistance Responsibilities
- Assist the General Manager/COO in the overall leadership and coordination of inter-club communications, and general club operations.
- Support the implementation and communication of club policies, standards, and strategic initiatives.
- Serve as acting manager in the absence of the General Manager when required, including attending and running committee and open Board of Director's meetings as necessary.
- Collaborate with department heads to ensure alignment between golf operations, food & beverage, events, membership, and facilities.
- Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

Vacation: 3 weeks per year +1 continuous week of paid leave annually for 1-member trip (after 6 months).
Sick Pay: Employee will accrue paid sick leave at the rate of one day per month up to a maximum of 9 days.
Meals: Employee entitled to 1 free meal a day if at least 6-hours are worked, and 2 free meals if 10 or more hours are worked in any one day.
Golf: Use of practice facilities, golf course, pickleball and bocce courts for self and spouse. One free guest per month at any time as long as playing with the guest.
