Description
OverviewThe Director of Golf is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, and execution of all golf-related operations at the Club. This role oversees the golf shop, golf staff, tournaments and events, instructional programs, practice facilities, and member service standards. The Director of Golf ensures a premier golf experience that reflects the Club's brand, culture, and service expectations while maintaining strong financial performance and operational efficiency.
Experience Required
- PGA Class A Professional preferred.
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in golf operations, preferably at a private club.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proven success in merchandising, tournament management, budgeting, and staff development.
- High level of professionalism, member-service orientation, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with golf management software (e.g., Jonas & Golf Genius).
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction for all golf operations in alignment with the Club's mission, goals, and member expectations.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate golf staff including shop staff, outside services, starters, and rangers.
- Create a positive, professional, service-driven culture that emphasizes teamwork, communication, and member satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for all areas of golf operations.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the golf shop, tee sheet management, practice areas, and on-course personnel.
- Ensure consistent enforcement of pace-of-play standards, course etiquette, and club rules.
- Collaborate with the Golf Course Superintendent to coordinate course conditions, maintenance schedules, and tournament preparation.
- Maintain accurate, efficient systems for tee time reservations, cart management, inventory tracking, and event scheduling.
- Deliver a high-quality, personalized golf experience for members and guests.
- Act as a visible and engaged presence at the Club-greeting players, supporting events, and responding to feedback.
- Manage member communications related to golf operations, including newsletters, event announcements, and rules updates.
- Handle member concerns promptly, professionally, and in accordance with Club standards.
- Plan, organize, and execute a comprehensive annual tournament calendar for men, women, juniors, and special events.
- Oversee scoring, pairings, rules administration, on-course setup, and award presentations.
- Direct the golf shop retail operation, including buying, merchandising, pricing strategies, and vendor relationships.
- Monitor inventory levels and maintain a profitable and dynamic retail environment that reflects current trends and member preferences.
- Track sales performance and adjust strategies to achieve revenue targets.
- Oversee instructional programs for players of all ages and skill levels, including private lessons, clinics, club fittings, and junior golf initiatives.
- Manage technology-based teaching tools and ensure proper maintenance of practice facilities.
- Develop and manage the annual golf operations budget, including revenue forecasting and expense control.
- Monitor key financial metrics such as rounds played, retail performance, labor costs, and event profitability.
- Ensure accurate reporting and work with accounting staff to maintain strong financial controls.
- Ensure compliance with all Club policies, industry best practices, and applicable local/state regulations.
- Oversee safe operation of golf carts, equipment, and facilities.
- Implement and maintain safety protocols for staff and players, including weather-related procedures.
