Description
FUSE is seeking a Director of Fellow Recruiting with demonstrated expertise in executive search to lead and manage individual searches that will deliver a lasting and meaningful impact on the communities served by FUSE. This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to an innovative, efficient, and results-driven system that fulfills the talent requirements of the FUSE Executive Fellowship.
Location
FUSE is a fully virtual organization and this position can be based remotely from anywhere in the United States.
Annual Salary
This position offers a non-negotiable annual salary of $132,000 and robust benefits. More details can be provided upon request.
About FUSE
FUSE is a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing the capacity of local governments to work more effectively for communities. We embed private sector executives in city and county agencies to lead projects that improve public services and accelerate systems change. Since 2012, FUSE has led over 400 projects in 58 governments across 26 states, impacting a total population equivalent to 1 in 10 Americans.
When designing each fellowship project, FUSE works closely with government partners and community stakeholders to define a scope of work that will achieve substantive progress toward high-priority local needs. Projects address today’s most pressing challenges and opportunities, including affordable housing, economic mobility, climate resilience, public safety, infrastructure, technology, and more.
FUSE conducts a full executive search for each individual project to ensure that the selected candidate has at least 15 years of professional experience, the required competencies for the role, and deep connections to the community being served.
Executive Fellows are embedded in government agencies working with senior leaders for at least one year of full-time work. Prospective responsibilities may include thorough data analytics and research, developing enhanced operations and financial models, building change management and strategic planning processes, and/or building broad coalitions to support project implementation efforts. Executive Fellows are data-driven and results-oriented, and able to effectively manage complex projects. They build strong relationships with a broad array of stakeholders, foster alignment within and across various layers of government, and build partnerships between governments and communities.
Throughout the fellowships, Executive Fellows receive training, coaching, and professional support to help achieve their project goals.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Vice President of Recruitment, the Director will expand FUSE’s reach by cultivating and building an executive level talent pool that reflects the backgrounds and experiences that make a successful FUSE Executive Fellow. Beyond conducting executive searches the Director will help shape FUSE’s brand in the talent marketplace, strengthening our ability to attract and engage executive leaders.
Position Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Executive Searches
- Manage a portfolio of executive fellowship project searches for each fellowship cohort.
- Review documentation and information available for each project to gain understanding of the project requirements; seek out additional insights and/or research projects as needed to inform specific recruiting plan.
- Design and execute sourcing plan for each project to produce a diverse pool of candidates well-qualified to fulfill the requirements of each role.
- Conduct interviews and act as the dedicated point of contact for all candidates for these searches.
- Skillfully manage expectations and provide effective communication to all stakeholders in the search, including candidates, internal team members and FUSE partners as appropriate.
2. Systems and Operations
- Partner with recruiting operations team members to manage recruitment systems, including an applicant tracking system and Salesforce.
- Embrace a growth mindset with eagerness to learn and experiment with new technologies, including AI, that enhance team productivity.
- Leverage technology to improve efficiency, equity, and candidate experience.
- Regularly review recruitment analytics to measure ROI, track progress toward strategic hiring goals, and inform leadership decision-making.
- Ensure recruitment practices adhere to relevant employment laws and industry best practices.
- Partner with the Senior Director and Senior Associate to ensure effective collaboration and communication across the department.
- Internally, work across teams to leverage insights into government partners and Fellows to inform decision making.
3. Recruitment Strategy Implementation
- Develop talent attraction approaches through research, pilot programs, and strategies that expand reach and impact.
- Stay informed of labor market trends to shape agile and competitive hiring strategies.
- Oversee contractor and vendor management to support executive searches.
- Build relationships with professional associations to introduce FUSE to
- new communities.
- Position FUSE as an opportunity of choice through compelling recruitment.
- Partner with leadership to forecast needs and build pipelines that strengthen capacity.
Who You Will Work With
This position reports to the Vice President of Recruitment and will work daily with a Senior Director of Fellow Recruiting and Associate of Fellow Recruiting. The Director will also collaborate regularly with peers across other departments.
Requirements
- A passion for civic innovation and a belief that local government can affect change in people's lives.
- 10+years of national and region-specific executive-level talent acquisition in large organizations and/or executive search firms.
- Deep knowledge of executive search practices and talent trends, with a focus on senior leadership and C-suite roles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience having worked collaboratively with a diverse group of peers and colleagues within a fast-moving, dynamic, and entrepreneurial organizational culture.
- Strategic thinker with the proven ability to implement creative talent acquisition solutions across multiple clients.
- Proven track record of building a sustainable pipelines of diverse talent in large and small markets.
- Experience with talent acquisition tech stacks, employer branding for recruiting, and data-driven recruiting
