AnnualA. POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Career Center, the Director of Career Development & Campus Integration is responsible for the vision, strategy and implementation of a comprehensive and scalable career development operation that elevates the visibility, reputation, influence and impact of the Career Center among students, staff, faculty and alumni. This manager-level position provides direct supervision and expert level of guidance to the Career Development & Campus Integration team, administrative staff and student employees and is responsible for a portfolio of technology, systems, programs, events and services designed to not only engage students in the career and professional development and life design process but also to activate the university network and ecosystem in support of students' career and professional development and social and economic mobility. This position reviews performance and makes assignments and independently makes decisions impacting functions within their scope.
The Director will actively seek approaches to expand, scale, and integrate the Career Center's reach across campus by developing and deepening relationships and partnerships with administrators, faculty, and staff in support of students across all undergraduate programs as well as the graduate programs of College of Arts & Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Education and Counseling Psychology, and the Jesuit School of Theology. The Director oversees the delivery, marketing, and content of all career development and campus integration systems, initiatives and programs within their scope.
The Director must be fully capable of providing full career development and campus integration program service offering, including individual career advising and vocation discernment services, and may also perform the duties of the Executive Director in their absence.
B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leadership and Management - 40%
- Serve as an active member of the Career Center leadership team, participating in weekly meetings, representing the Center at appropriate campus and off-campus functions, providing support for all major Career Center initiatives, and performing the duties of the Executive Director in their absence.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, create a vision and strategic plan for a comprehensive, innovative and equity-focused career and professional development operation that is in alignment with the broader Career Center strategic plan and the University's strategic goals.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of scalable career development systems and programs for all undergraduate students as well as graduate students of the Leavey School of Business, the School of Engineering, College of Arts & Sciences, School of Education and Counseling Psychology, and the Jesuit School of Theology.
- Build and maintain an effective and collaborative relationship with career development counterparts in the School of Law's Office of Career Management and Leavey School of Business's Office of Graduate Business Career Management as well as other career development-focused professionals throughout campus.
- Serve as the central point of contact and subject matter expert to internal and external partners as it relates to best practices for student and alumni career and professional development and vocation discernment.
- Initiate and create a strong web of relationships with alumni, faculty and staff to fully engage and activate the university network in support of students' career and professional development.
- Lead the development/adoption and implementation of innovative career readiness approaches, services, technology platforms and systems, programs and initiatives.
- Review, develop, and implement recruitment, selection, on-boarding, training, professional development, and performance evaluation processes for Career Development professionals in consultation with the Executive Director.
- Provide leadership, direction and mentorship to career development professionals and student staff.
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise career development student employees and interns.
- Stay abreast of student interests and workplace/industry trends in order to guide strategic planning, programmatic initiatives, and marketing.
- Manage alumni, parents, students, and employers inquiries.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Executive Director to ensure the success of career services on behalf of the university, its students, and alumni.
2. Campus Integration, Partnerships and Collaboration 25%
- Build a more connected and engaged experience for all students by developing and executing on-going strategies and initiatives for expanding cross-campus coordination and increasing visibility of career and professional development resources, systems, and programs.
- Initiate, identify, and seize opportunities to integrate career and professional development concepts and best practices into curricular and cocurricular programs.
- Serve as the on-campus subject matter expert for career and professional development; lead cross-campus effort to define and assess the career and professional readiness of Santa Clara University students and graduates.
- Provide education and consultative support to faculty, staff and students and larger campus community on personal and professional development models and practices to best support the career readiness and success of all undergraduate and graduate students and alumni.
- Direct comprehensive outreach campaigns to effectively market career education programs, systems, tools, services and events to SCU students and campus partners.
- Work closely with the Director of Employer Relations & Partnerships to evaluate and qualify potential employer relationships .
3. Major Program and System Implementation 20%
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop and implement major programs, systems, initiatives and technology solutions both within the department and in collaboration with campus partners (e.g., Career Influencers Network, PeopleGrove, Jobscan).
- Drive deep adoption of student-alumni networking solution PeopleGrove.
- Direct major Career Center initiatives designed to meet the career development needs of students and reflect the current recruitment and workforce development trends.
- In collaboration with the Director of Employer Relations & Partnerships, develop programs, systems and initiatives that prepare students to successfully engage with recruiters and other employer professionals.
- Stay abreast of technology and social media and its use in marketing, career and program development, and data tracking and evaluation for reporting.
- Maintain working knowledge of current CMS (eg.,TerminalFour) and directly update the website in a limited capacity as needed.
4. Direct Service to Students (10%)
- Provide individual and group career advising and coaching to students and alumni, including administration and interpretation of career assessment inventories.
- Design systems to deliver information to students and alumni on career development and transition, job search strategies, and local/national employment and labor market trends.
5. Continuous Benchmarking and University Representation (5%)
- Work closely with the Office of Assessment, Institutional Research and campus partners to assess program and service design, delivery and outcomes.
- Regularly conduct student and alumni engagement needs and gap analyses to inform strategic priorities.
- Ensure continuous service enhancements through local, regional, and national benchmarking with industry peers.
- Design systems and processes to track key performance indicators and to solicit qualitative feedback from key stakeholders to include the use of technology systems and tools to track data, develop and assess services and evaluate effectiveness of programs and services.
- Research emerging career and professional development trends and best practices; integrate research into programs and services.
- Update position-related skills by participating in appropriate professional development offerings throughout the year; ensure direct reports have access to professional development opportunities.
- Represent Santa Clara University's Career Center through active involvement and leadership in regional and national associations.
C. PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION
Manage and review performance for 4-5 professional staff as well as multiple student employees and graduate student interns.
D. GENERAL GUIDELINES
Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services. Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices. Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services. Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives. Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow. Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions. Prepares and submits reports as requested and required. Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit. Provides guidance to lower-level personnel. Reviews performance and makes assignments.

4. Education
Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
5. Years of Experience
A minimum of seven years of relevant work experience. Some supervisory or management experience required.
