Summary
Colville School District is now accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Designed Instruction Self-Contained Special Education Teacher at Hofstetter Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. This position is responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate practices in a self-contained special education classroom and for designing and delivering effective specialized instruction specific for students with sensory, developmental, and/or multiple or severe disabilities, with the goal of improving student performance and supporting special programs.
The candidate must hold a valid Washington State teaching certificate with a special education endorsement, along with an academic background appropriate to the subject area or grade level. The candidate is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of learning experiences for students in cooperation with other staff members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a collaborative member of the building’s multidisciplinary team; be knowledgeable about eligibility determination and the development of instructional and behavioral goals that support students with sensory, developmental, basic life-skills, and/or multiple or severe disabilities across a continuum of services specific to a self-contained setting.
- Develop and implement IEP goals using evaluation results and assessment data. Evaluate student progress using progress-monitoring strategies.
- Design and monitor specifically designed instruction for students based on diagnostic data, reflecting their abilities and achievement levels, and develop written plans using district-approved curriculum to accelerate their growth and close the achievement gap.
- Follow district policies, procedures, and administrative directives as they pertain to WAC 392-172A and P.L.105-17.
- Conduct Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA), either independently or as part of a team, to identify the function of a student’s behavior and to develop effective positive behavior supports and interventions (BIP). Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention and make modifications as appropriate.
- Provide consultation and follow-up services to general education teachers, parents, other district personnel, and community agencies, as needed and authorized, to ensure the successful transition of students into a less restrictive environment.
- Effectively manage, instruct, and supervise instructional assistants, other staff, volunteers, and students working under your direction. Ensure they are properly trained and monitored on instructional programs, assigned responsibilities, and intervention strategies, and verify that their interactions with students are reviewed on a weekly basis.
- Provide all instructional staff, support staff, administrators, and specialists with a daily or weekly schedule of staff assignments and student activities to ensure adequate supervision for both instructional and behavioral supports.
- Participate in weekly grade-level planning meetings and professional learning community (PLC) collaborations.
- Deliver effective instruction and assessment aligned with the Washington State Learning Standards and the District Curriculum goals for elementary grades.
- Develop both long- and short-range instructional plans for assigned subject areas.
- Address individual learning needs and differences of students.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of subject matter in classroom instruction.
- Foster a classroom climate built on mutual respect, rapport, fairness, and consistency.
- Exhibit proficiency in instructional skills.
- Evaluate instruction based on established goals and revise teaching approaches as needed according to evaluation results.
- Inform students of their progress in relation to learning objectives set for the lessons or courses of study.
- Interact positively with students, colleagues, and school district patrons.
- Perform job-related, non-teaching duties as assigned.
- Supervise student teachers, teacher assistants, tutors, and volunteers when applicable.
- Manage student discipline and attendance issues effectively.
- Participate actively in staff development activities.
- Other duties as assigned.

This position is part of the Colville Education Association (CEA) Teacher's Bargaining Unit. Salary is in accordance with the Colville Education Association (CEA) Collective Bargaining Agreement. - Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
- A valid Washington State teaching certification with Special Education Endorsement is preferred.
- Candidates may follow Washington Alternative Teaching Certification Routes congruent with Washington State Professional Educators Standards
- Candidates possessing a current teaching certification other than special education may inquire about the Colville School District’s special education stipend program for a one-year university program to obtain their special education endorsement.
- Teaching experience with students with disabilities in a self-contained setting is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to plan and implement effective programs for students with a wide range of disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to implement effective teaching methods and modify general education curriculum for student success.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver effective instruction and assessment aligned with the Common Core and District Curriculum goals.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective classroom management.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Possess knowledge and experience in using technology to deliver curriculum and instruction.
- A favorable report from a state and national fingerprint background check is required.
