Job Summary
Part-time, temporary position with no benefits.
Responsible for leading and managing an interscholastic athletic program with an emphasis on student safety, skill development, sportsmanship, and academic accountability. The Head Coach ensures compliance with governing regulations, promotes a positive team culture, maintains communication with stakeholders, and upholds high standards of professionalism and conduct.
Core Responsibilities
Prioritize the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
Teach appropriate sport-specific skills and techniques.
Develop and supervise strength and conditioning programs, including off-season, pre-season, and in-season training.
Recognize environmental and facility hazards and monitor weather conditions to prevent injuries.
Provide or delegate emergency care and first aid in the absence of medical personnel and ensure parent/guardian notification when injuries occur.
Conduct pre-season meetings with athletes and parents covering program expectations, emergency procedures, equipment, insurance, and injury reporting.
Maintain communication with the team physician, athletic trainer, and school administration regarding injury prevention and care.
Leadership and Administrative Duties
Understand and follow all applicable athletic rules, regulations, and policies.
Conduct meetings with assistant coaches to establish season goals and action plans.
Hold team meetings emphasizing sportsmanship and clearly communicate team rules and consequences.
Organize and plan daily practice schedules.
Submit required eligibility documentation prior to the first contest.
Attend professional development clinics and meetings to enhance coaching performance.
Issue, maintain, collect, inventory, and store athletic equipment.
Ensure proper conduct and supervision during practices and games.
Secure facilities after practices and events.
Provide required inventories, requisitions, and award lists at the conclusion of the season.
Direct interscholastic-related concerns to the athletic director.
Student Support and Academic Monitoring
Counsel student-athletes to maintain academic eligibility.
Conduct supervised study sessions as needed.
Facilitate tutoring for athletes experiencing academic difficulty.
Monitor student grades and attendance.
Requirements
Professional Expectations
Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification and required coaching education credentials.
Represent the school professionally in attire and behavior at all times.
Demonstrate enthusiasm and leadership in coaching responsibilities.
Foster positive relationships with parents, booster organizations, media, and the community.
Promote a wholesome and supportive educational environment.
Work Environment and Conditions
Primarily school-based athletic facilities and fields.
Requires extended hours, including evenings and weekends during the sports season.
Work involves outdoor exposure and physical activity related to coaching duties.
