Job Description
Elementary Principal
Reports to
Superintendent of Schools
Purpose
Works with staff to provide high quality instructional, extra-curricular and support services for students; provides administrative services and monitors the educational program.
Essential Functions
Serve as the instructional leader for the school
Lead the school improvement planning and implementation
Maintain positive and effective communication with varied groups
Supervise and evaluate staff performance and program effectiveness
Work with populations and opinions of a diverse nature
Commitment to excellence in professional performance
Develop and maintain positive discipline procedures
Be a contributing member of the district’s educational leadership team
Select, train, and assign staff
Manage the building and ASB budgets in accordance with district guidelines and in order to maximize opportunities for all children
Establish school policies and procedures which guide the operation of the school in alignment with laws and district policy
Lead the staff in integrating the ever-changing technological environment into their classroom and updating an ever changing curriculum
Other Functions
Performs other related tasks as designated by the superintendent of schools
Job Requirements: -Minimum Qualifications
Skills: this person is required to have skills in clear, effective oral and written communications; curricular and instructional leadership; program and staff evaluation; personnel management and supervision; selecting, training, monitoring, motivating and assigning staff; applying and interpreting labor agreements; resolving conflict, employee issues and grievances; time management; group facilitation, emergency management, keyboarding, data entry, and word processing.
Knowledge: this person is required to have knowledge of rules and regulations governing the operation of elementary schools.
Ability: this person is required to have the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals under a variety of circumstances in a professional manner; the ability to meet deadlines and schedules; complete work with a professional quality within time constraints; and adapt to changing work priorities; utilize District and community resources to meet student needs; provide leadership in areas of staff development and teaching and learning; respond to changing priorities and emergency situations.
Working Environment: the usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions requires the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and /or pulling; significant typing and/or writing.
Experience/Training: Two years prior administrative experience at the elementary level preferred.
Education: Masters Degree in Educational Administration and Elementary Principal Certification required.
Evaluation: Position to be evaluated annually in accordance with board policies regarding classified employees.
